I just don't get why those in the government and so many on the Left want to move towards more gun control and even gun confiscation. What are they so worried about? Is it really that they want to reduce the amount of gun violence in the country? How about looking at the overall amount of violence in the country? Do they really believe that criminals are ever going to care about what laws the pass about anything? Are they really worried that good, law-abiding, reasonable people who own guns are going to suddenly go on a gun violence-filled crime spree? What is the real purpose behind this whole issue?
I cannot help but believe that the real purpose is to disarm the majority of the American people so that they are defenseless against the criminal population and that the people will then demand government do more to protect them, in the inexorable course of making the people more and more dependent on them. Beyond that, the people will also be defenseless in turn to that bigger government that will be dictating more and more aspects of their lives, and eventually people will object to that.

Regulation, restriction, registration, confiscation.
Then the roundup begins.
I think there are two drivers of the liberal gun roundup. First they view power as a zero sum game and by reducing our power, they gain. Also, I suspect they project their ambitions on us and wrongly suspect that we'll use our guns as they'd use theirs and that frightens them.
That's true, I don't know how many times I have heard someone say, "It's a good thing I don't have a gun, because if I did, I would shoot the guy that cuts me off in traffic!" Or, instead of the guy in traffic, insert the "person that offends me in some small insignificant way".
I always think to myself, "Really? You are just that close to committing murder at any moment? Then I don't want you to have a gun either!"
But because they can't control themselves and their homicidal impulses, then they believe that no one can. I bet it scares the crap out of them to know that there are thousands of law abiding gun owners around them all the time.
