Reasonable Faith: Dr. Craig on Collins vs Dawkins on Design of Universe
I'm pretty much on the same page with Dr. Craig on Creationism. God has to be the First Cause of the Universe, but the Earth and Universe are so obviously older than a few thousand years that those who cling to "Young Earth" theory based on sticking to a literal interpretation of scripture are driving people away from the Church.

To anyone not blindered by dogma the earth and the universe is old far beyond the human ability to understand.
Just to be certain that semantics does not cause a problem:
Dogma: A principle or set of principles laid down by an authority as incontrovertibly true.
In this case, it's religious dogma that contends the earth is just a few dozen centuries old.
Of course, the companion argument to this is how the universe was created.
We do not know and have no clue. Humanity will probably never know, and for certain no monk or scribe copying manuscripts and letters centuries ago knew either. So it's much easier for many to just palm the whole subject off on some - as they say - all-powerful but invisible sky god, or to some speck in the center of nowhere that decided to go bang.
When you make the claim that "God has to be the First Cause of the Universe", you must first define what you believe this "God" to be.
An old white man with a beard?
An alien(as in non-human) entity of massive power?
A vast cloud of animate and intelligent energy?
A human that claimed impressive lineage that was crucified by the Romans?
Was that teenie tiny speck that went bang your defination of God?
It is just as silly to claim that the universe was created from some teenie tiny little speck of unimaginably dense something-or-other that exploded into all there is and ever will be as it is to claim some individual sentinent being created everything.
Roaming about the universe may be legions of what we would consider Gods, some powerful, some not so powerful, all alien( as in not human), all beyond our present understanding.
Some of them may have visited earth in our past and may even return one fine day. The god of Abraham, possibly an alien - was a very ungodlike and emotionally unstable god what with all his anger, jealousy, and vengeful acts of mass murder - was most probably one of the lesser gods of the day, demanding that his followers worship no other gods before him/it.
According to other great myths and legends from the day, there was a great war between the gods, and those that were -at the time - ruling the Middle East were sent packing.
Will they come back? One of their agents, the human Jesus, said they will.
I tend to take him at his word.
Quick answer is "God, the Creator of the Universe". As for the rest, I'll have to answer later.

C'mon man, this stuff is comedy gold and you want to get rid of it?
heh...
they seem to really hit my older posts more than current ones.
If there really is a God, why does He allow idiots to post spam on my blog?
I propose that we call this "The Problem of Spam".
That He is either unwilling or unable to prevent spam?
Hmmm...I always thought the Problem of Spam came down to bland taste.
